Reproducible results, that's what I'm after, mechanical, flat as possible. Door panel, granite flat, flat sanding blocks, tight tolerances. Often, I make my own jigs and or tools and I've been doing it since day one with all of my wings.
This place used to be called Capitol Metals but now it's Industrial Metal Supply and it moved last year. Or that's what the gal at the counter said. This place is reeks of testosterone, things are going on, potential, shit is going to be built. The people in their shopping have micrometers, tape measures, pencil on their ear, lots of boots on the ground. I always feel inadequate, inferior when I go in there because I just buy scraps and make my things. Last time I went, the guy wouldn't even charge me, he just waved me through, "thanks for visiting, that one is on us." "No problem and thanks, I stop by whenever I need solutions."
So, I bought some blocks of metal to jig up and or weigh down glued materials. I take it home and file off the burrs and clean them with dish washing detergent and in the case of the aluminum rectangle, I'll take some mineral spirits and clean it off and stick sandpaper along one side for sanding leading or trailing edges, wings. This long sanding block keeps the waves out.
