I’ve been to five hobby shops all over Phoenix. The metropolitan area is one hundred miles across! No stores have a good section for balsa supplies, so far Superstition Hobies has the best. No stores carry Futaba radios. Everything is working against me. I have these champion class friends but I don’t want to bug them but I know, you can’t skip shit. This is how you figure things out.
I am looking for a solid door. The social media marketplace sellers are so screwed up. You send them a message, “Yes, I’ll buy one” and they ghost you or, “I got doors!” And fail to tell you how to buy one.
I tried to buy a Workmate table, same thing. I bought a new one on Amazon for just as inexpensive.
My werks bench will be semi-mobile. 18”x48” panel cut from a door topped by ceiling tile. I will work on that or granite for absolutely flat wings. Driving on the freeway with a 150lb door strapped to the roof was not fun. I kept the center of lift balanced…
This week Amazon will deliver my Workmate table. I’ve been missing my old one, I can’t even remember where it got left off. But a new one is inbound. I’ll assemble it and the door panel will be clamped in on top. That’s my portable bench with double duties.
We cut the panel 18” x 48” and the ceiling tile is now cut too. The core is chip wood so I ran a spar varnish sponge brush along the edge just in case. I’ve got some black paint and will letter it soon, “Sailplanewerks” for old time sake.
I’m going to make a cardboard shelf for my balsa and plywood storage.
It’s coming together, I remember.
My first glider I will replace the wing plug in/former with premium plywood.
I will go to Industrial Metal Supply for L pieces and steel square tubing wing sheet weights and aluminum rectangle tube leading and trailing edge sanders.
My gliders are always clean, I take pride in attention to detail.
I’m good, staying focused, first kit gets here in a few days. Off to the blue printers for copies…
